How to link art studies with our personal life?

When you start studying any career related to art, many life paths begin to make more sense. But many times those paths are totally different from the senses we had in mind.

The Dramatic Arts career at the Universidad de Chile offers a large number of methods for the practice of our working area, and with these methods I mean the ability to achieve a performance just as we want it. However, there are other deeper methods that seems to justify and force us to think what we do, what we act. It is in this practice of thinking when life enters in the game. Where we think about life.

Many classmates have become more related to this "practice of thinking" where not only theater has a voice, but also fields such as semiotics or sociology enter to dialogue with this art. Tensions are created between concepts, the ideas are dissolve and the points that we thought were clear in our lives begin to crumble step by step to make way to a new thought, much more critical, much more rational, and many times much more bleak.

What is acting without thinking about life?

Imitation. Nothing more than a formula to get to the same point.

Thinking about life makes us feel uncomfortable with it, thinking that not everything is black or white creates crisis in ourselves. Discovering the somber of life is not easy, to love a hated one or to hate a loved one collapses any principle. But not all is lost.

The theater and its practice makes us navigate those somber places, makes us understand what was so difficult for us to understand, makes us empathize with what we refused to empathize before. Being presents in theater makes us relate to life in a different way, in a way - perhaps - much more human. And, clearly, it is not easy to be human, the most difficult thing that we have had to do was relate to each other, understand each other, hate each other and love each other.

Finally, understanding the theatrical environment in this way, carries me to try to bring this same logic to the audience. Let us fill ourselves with hate and love, let us be accomplices of our feelings. May it cost us less and less to be more human.

My future job - English IV

When I was in school, I was part of the cast of the city theatre in Melipilla, there I developed a special interest for dramatic arts thanks to my teacher Melissa. She was in charge of the class and she always encouraged us to study what will make us happy. And thats how I decided to study Dramaticc Arts.

Now I work with her writing the plays that put on in the city theater, and to me thats a very emotional and exceptional experience, because now I am part of the people that struggle for the develop of culture in my city.

But thats not the only things I have wrote, I also have wrote plays to work with my theatre grouo "La Cienfuegos" and that is a ver exciting job too. I would love to dedicate big part of my life writing plays and scripts that later could become in good productions.

Thas why I like to read new plays of chilean playwrights, because I like to learn from them and their writing style.

I also like the direction area. I like to conduct the ideas of a new producction and the risk that it carries. I think that directors have the chance to present something new from a different point of view and that is what thrills me.

My Pet - Engish IV

Five years ago, I was riding my bike and I decided to buy a soda near the park in Melipilla. While I was sitting drinking it, a dog came close to me and started to sniff my sneakers. It seems to be a suspicious dog because when I tried to caress it, it avoided my hand and move away from me, but suddently it came closer and after sniff my hand, I could caress it. She was a white small dog with brown spots arround her body.

After that I rode my bike again and started to go home, but she was following right beside me. I know that my mom loves animals and we didn't have a pet in that moment, so I considered the idea to adopt her, but I wasn't sure yet.

When I arrived with her to my home my mom looked at me and started to laugh and then she said "You will have to take care of her". And I did, her name is Lulu and now I miss her every time I travel to Santiago, but my mom take good care of her.

Quarantine hobbies - English IV

I live in a small apartment with my cousin (the same that took me to the Ska-P concert) and during quarantine it has been really difficult to find something to do. I spend most of the time playing videogames and learning how to edit videos in my computer, this last thing has helped me a lot in my class proyects. We can't have pets in my building so I really miss my dog Lulu. But the good thing about this is that I discovered a new hobbie, take care of plants. Before quarantine I didn't have too much plants in home, but now we have 10 and they really lift up my spirit. We have mint, basil, rue, oregano, "palo de agua" and others and I have read that is important to talk to them or singing near them, it helps to its growth and the energy that they project.

I was very skeptical about this theme, but I have seen how they have growth and they look really healthy now.

We put coffe pills in their soild, the minerals and nutrients that it has help the growth and avoid the presense of snails and worms.

Definitely plants has helped to change the energy of my home.

The best concert ever - English IV

When I was 13 years old, I went to a Ska-P concert. They are a spanish band of ska punk formed in Vallecas (Madrid) known by their polemic lyrics against the spanish government, media and catholic religion.

It is known that the ska punk is a very fun and fast music genre and their fans always go crazy in their concerts, so it was a very good experience to me. I remeber that people looked at me because of my age (and the fact that there was a lot of alcohol and drugs), but I had one of the best moments of my life in that concert. I went with an older cousin and when the music started faster, we entered in the famouse "Mosh" and I got hit a lot of times and suddently people took me and started to lift me up. My cousin started to laugh and helped the people so I don't fall. When the concert was over an we were in our house I told my mother what happened and she couldn't believe me. It was the best concert ever.

A country I’d like to visit - English IV

Since I was a child, I dream to visit France because I love their architecture and their culture. I have an uncle that lives there and he promised to me that he would take me there once I finish my university studies. I also likes the great international levels of restaurants that it has, but I probably can't afford to pay one. They are really expensive!

France is the most visit country in all the world, with about 80 millions of visitors every year, being Paris its favourite atracction

I know that the Eiffel tower is the principal construction to see, but I am more interested to meet the Loira Castles due to its historical and cultural importance.

I would like to study in this country if I have the chance, I think is a very good place to investigate and create new arts proyects thanks to the importants arts institutes that are in France and I hope to make it one day.

Picture Activity Inglish III (Fifth)

This picture is very special for me because it is a time in which I was very happy making theater in my city, Melipilla. It was the year 2017, with the company Melipillán Teatro we went the carnival in memory of Violeta Parra, as a group we decided recreated a most famous artwork, but the challenge was to make it much bigger. In the picture we see the group working together, we were in the Teatro Serrano. In the carnival we all who work in the process. It was fun. We walk through the Alameda from Baquedano to La Moneda. It was a very hot day, we all ended up very tired from walking and jumping in full sun, but it was a lot of fun. It is very nice memory.
